Expansion tank cap

Post by timhum » Sun Dec 09, 2007 6:39 pm

Hi Follow Bongoistas,
I would like to know where I can source an expansion tank cap fastish. I am south of London and would like to get hold of one tomorrow if poss.
There is a Mazda dealer near me if it is standard to other models, my local Halfords denied knowledge of that part (as mentioned elsewhere in this forum).
Any help gratefully received.
By the way, Mazda Bongo is on Halfords computer system, under Commercial vehicles!!!!! I didn't realise I was driving a van....

Any Jap type cap with a 1.1 BAR pressure will fit. Try a Honda one in a motor factors.
If you're really stuck a 0.9 will do short term

The same cap is used on a Mazda 626 between K and R reg it should state 1.1 Bar on it . :)

Dont forget the cap on the expansion tank is different rating than the one on the radiator.

The one on the radiator should have no rating - it's purely a filler cap :?

When a plain filler cap is unavailable then folks fit a 1.1 Bar pressure cap (incorrectly IMO)

Sorry prob wrong use of word with rating. I meant to say the radiator cap should be coloured red and the expansion cap which is under pressure and rated should be yellow, And if you take them both off dont mix them up. Like Dandy said the rated one at least to go on the expansion tank.

Now I'm confused - I just looked at the lushprojects parts diagram and both caps are the same part number

I've looked at 6 Bongos now and 4 had a pressure cap on the radiator and 2 had a plain cap. I presumed that the plain cap was right. :?

Just had a look (in the pouring rain) and this is what i found.
On my bongo the radiator cap the top is coloured red with the words RADIATOR USE ONLY and rated 1.1
The expansion tank cap the top is yellow and rated 1.1

Now that should confuse everyone .

Many thanks for the replies chaps. I have ordered an alarm from Haydn and think I might have got away with it this time.
Cheers,
Tim
