Air noise ???

Can somebody tell me if what i am hearing is normal on a Bongo. When accelarating between 2000 & 2500 rpm I hear what sounds like either air blowing out or air sucking in. I raised it with the person i bought from and they said it was normal on all bongos. Is this correct? Is it perhaps a noisy air intake or something like that? The vehicle is going back to the importer for some work next week so i want to have my facts right when i discuss it with him. Any help appreciated.

Get the manifold studs checked....sound as if number 1 could have sheared.

I assume its a diesel (I only mention it as I wouldn't know whether the quieter V6 petrol makes it v easy to hear air being sucked through the induction tract).

The air filter box is (I think) right underneath your bum. Is the airfilter in good condition (not gunged up)? Does it have one fitted? Maybe it's a K&N metal one (they are known to allow more induction noise to transmit)? Is the sound insulation on the engine compartments in good nick?

I'm probably on the wrong track, but at least its a few suspects you could eliminate on the cheap

Turbo?

didnt realise I had turbo. Mines a 2wd freda, do they come with Turbo?

I sound a bit dull!! Help

If it's a diesel you have a turbo.

and that is a very good thing.

S' funny, when I suggested turbo kicking in as an answer to a similar question several months ago, I got derided & told by one of our venerable senior members that if you could hear your turbo it meant it was b***ered. I din't bother getting into an argument over it, just put it down to the fact that their hearing was shot

My bongo has also most likely had a noisy turbo since I bought it 14000 miles ago. It makes a hissing sort of a noise between about 2000 and 2500 rpm on acceleration. It tends to not be audible with very hard acceleration, and can often not be heard when a larger bottomed person is in the front passenger seat. I took it back to the dealer early on, and we had a drive. I could clearly hear the noise -- but he could not. He was in his 60s or perhaps 70s, and my guess is that he could not hear high frequency sounds. He checked all of the air hoses from the air cleaner to the turbo, and I have checked them too without being able to locate air leaking. It hasn't got worse, and I have chalked it up to warped impeller blades on the turbo, without looking for any further evidence. I do think that you should check number 1 manifold stud as suggested, and also the air hose connections.
