EGR Blanking
Considering the EGR thing when I finally take deilvery.
This is my second vehicle that I've blanked off the EGR. If you saw the crud that builds up as a result of it you wouldn't be giving this a second thought. There's a good thread from about a year ago entitled "manifold sludge" with some pictures of what EGR does to your inlet manifold, explanations about what it is, how it works, why you don't need it, and a simple fix for disabling it.
Tigs,
Its short for 'exhaust gas recirculation'. Its the steel pipe that goes from the inlet manifold under the drivers seat to the exhaust manifold under the passenger seat. Exhaust gas is passed through it to be reburnt in the cylinders, supposed to reduce emmissions but this is questionable. What it does do is put a load of crap in your inlet manifold. I've blocked mine off but to be honest havn't noticed much difference in the running of the vehicle so can't really vote.

Well some diesels respond well to blanking and some dont. The more old tech they are the better the effect and the Bongo has a small but noticeable improvement. The crud in the inlet is not a big factor but you have to remember that all that muck is on the way to the engine and only a tiny amount sticks in the inlet. If you have a stuck EGR then the effect is very noticeable because you are bypassing a serious problem. It is best to blank the lot off because they usually leak a bit so you only get a limited improvement.
All in all a few good points and no bad ones so it seems an easy decision to me. Some very modern diesels rely on EGR to cool turbos so whilst it's fine on a bongo it doesn't work on everything.

I had mine done about a month ago. I've been logging the mpg on a spreadsheet since I got the Bongo about a year ago so I'll let you know in a month or so what difference it's made. I haven't done all that many miles since I fitted it but I'll be having a long trip to Caithness over Christmas.
I can say though that the magnet thingy on the fuel pipe, fitted about six months ago, hasn't made the slightest iota of difference.
