ok guys thanks for all the info , especially haydn! got it all sorted and running fine only to discover that the thermostat was stuck shut and boiled up again ! so removed it and re bled it ....sorted... so now the fans arent coming on due to a knackered alternator ! no charge and as soon as i hooked up my saab to it , click , on they came but it boiling a bit by this time . so we need a new alternator, thermostat and expansion tank cap ! and all should be well ! i think haydn suggested bongobits for cap and thermostat so i will need to source an alternator from some where else ! once again thanks, Rab.

ok alt fitted and it was goosed so thats a good thing out of the way, now it will idle for ages and ages and then starts to seap out expansion tank via cap...before fans come on but as soon as i turn on a/c the fans come on so could this be a knackered cap ? i need to replace it to eliminate the possibility i think....ho hum, another item to be done !

Alternator on Ebay - might be useful to other members to know who the Ebay seller is as he may have more at this price
