NOW i'm interested......another gadget. I was also interested, a while back, in getting a "plug- in " heating element for the cooling system...you plug it into the mains, and it warms the cooling system, so when you start in the morning you have the use of the heater straight away!!!..cool!!....or should I say Warm.
Now here's where my forgettory kicks in....i've forgotten the name of the firm that makes them....give me a while, and I'll remember.

I remember now!!!....must start looking again....not only do they keep the engine warm, but they also slow down engine wear on cold starts.....not that that will affect 10 year old Bongos!!!!

No, it still affects any engine - they never stop wearing out and the fewer the cold starts the better.

Hi helen&tony, if you rev the bongo to a mere 2,500 rpm, you can actually hear the turbo spooling up....

If you shut the engine off within 45 seconds or so of this engine speed,the impellar will still be spinning at a fair rate of knots when the engine is shut down... still spinning with no more oil flow

For the cost of a timer,its a chance i'm not willing to take,even if its not strictly neccessary...

The other advantage to a timer is that if you increase the timer to 5 minutes,then cold start, you can remove the keys whilst the engine quietly burbles away for 5 minutes.

If D is selected,engine shuts down... If handbrake is released,engine shuts down....

The 5 minute warm up isnt enough on tickover to get the heaters warm,but at least the blowers on the cold screen clears the condensation,plus,the heaters start to warm much sooner in the following journey too

I'm sold on the idea, as you say regarding the oil, also the fact that even on a non- performance engine, the turbo by it's very nature runs very hot, and coupled with no oil can lead to running the bearings....I always cool the engine when I stop, and a timer would save me having to sit in the car. If it's illegal, I'll just hide it, and be careful where I park.
