Interior light delay unit fitted today. Only £5

Hello all

Im one week into bongo ownership, and its great.

Ive just fitted a neat little unit i found on ebay (it was mentioned in old post but thought people might want to know how i fitted it.)

1st heres the unit i bought

2nd remove the interior light

3rd unplug the interior light

4th solder wire one on to the permanent ground (black on one of the push buttons)

5th solder wire on to the switched ground (red/green going to door/ off switch)

6th tuck unit into the gap in the middle of ligthts.

7th plug lamps back in and test. (set little pot to set delay time)

8th put lamp bak in headling.

im pleased with it and for £5 it takes away one of the little problems with my bongo.

Ive been replacing lamps in switches and climate unit today too if any ones interested?? i took pics etc.

Hi Steve,
Nice job.
If you have pictures on replacing bulbs in the window blind switches on the dash. Then I am interested.
I gave up trying to work out how to get to the bulb.
Tyre lever is my next option!

The dash blind switches (in mine atleast) are like this. Im going to solder up some leds to fit in place of them.

Red rubber thing is the lamp holder.

Excellent job Steve - its only a pity I have LEDs or I'd be on the case (but the LEDs give great light so I'll stick with them).

Mike - are your leds in the back of the van. Is so is the light bright enough to read by and could you give me the detaisl so I can consider .

ronhud- no its the front cab ones and the tailgate one that have been covnerted to LEDs. I find the main one OK (provided its working properly - it has a tendency to go 'weak contact' and run dimmer so I sometimes take the cover off and jiggle it about / rotate it to improve performance). New tubes cna be got cheaply (bongobits are not the cheapest source - camping shops are better on price as its a standard / non Bongo item)

I may even revert back to filament bulbs in the cabin to incorporate this neat little gadget...My LED's have decided not to work anymore (if they start to flicker,they are on their way out) its just a pity i'll have to go back to the dim, yellowy light that filament bulbs have in the cabin lights....

I'd got used to the super bright white/blue beam of my 9 led front interior lights too,plain old bulbs are gonna seem so dim in comparison.

Perhaps somebody knows of a filament bulb that nearly as bright as my former LED's?

Hmm.. i hadn't thought of that

It would just mean a flat leisure battery for me,but all the same.....

Should be ok though, my stereo (plus amp) was left on for four days,and still the battery seemed to be charged!

What type of leds have you got?

im sure a circuit could be made to extend leds after door close, but it would need more wiring.
