I could be being thick now but if it was to do with the starter - surely it would be a starting problem - rather than moving off?Ralph wrote:Probably not but could it be something starter related,
sticking solenoid ?
what is the take off noise

If the started gear was not disengaging when the engine
as started the engine would try to drive the starter or maybe
just touching it and it would then make a noise, poking a fault
with a keyboard from many miles away is as best a guess,
it seems very strange that if I read your post right it only
happens after you have used the starter if that is so then
it should point us in a certain direction, could the starter it's
self be loose? or have I read it wrong?

Could be either of the things Ralph says - it could be the ring gear flicking a stuck starter pinion out of the way or just the alternator belt objecting to getting an "under load" alternator spinning again after a start.
Sorry edited to get Ralph's name right. I remembered his bike not his name when I typed it.
Ohh and I always fancied a Morini closest I got was a CX500.

My first thought was the same as Ralph - it's the alternator belt slipping because you've naturally drained so much out of the battery with the starter motor and glow plugs during startup that the alternator is trying to rapidly recharge the battery but cannot. Once the battery has recharged sufficiently the alternator won't make the belt slip/squeal and things appear normal til you try another start.
Tighten/replace the alternator belt and see if the noise persists.

Just puff some talcum powder on it first, that will take the shine off it enough to counter the slip, if that is the problem.dandywarhol wrote:My first thought was the same as Ralph - it's the alternator belt slipping because you've naturally drained so much out of the battery with the starter motor and glow plugs during startup that the alternator is trying to rapidly recharge the battery but cannot. If that does stop the chirruping then look to getting the belt properly tensioned ASAP as the talc won't last for ever and you don't want the neighbours seeing you puffing talc under the passenger seat too often do you?
