what is the take off noise

I know there will be posts on this but because I dont know what it is - I can't find them.

When I have started the engine and pull away, as soon as I put my foot on the gas I get a little beeping/whinging type noise. It is only on first start up, not when stopping starting etc. I am sure it is normal but wondered what it was.

There is a leak due to a stud having sheared.

If you do a search you will find a War & Peace amount of info here already on the forum - unless of course it has been pruned too drastically........

Is there anyone coming to Buxton who would be able to show me where to look and take a peek so I know what the problem is and then I can get it sorted. It was like this the day I left the garage and I wasn't aware there was anything wrong.

I will take it straight to Mike dont worry - its just that it takes me a lot of diesel to get there and back so it would be useful to give him an idea of why I was coming so I dont need a return journey. Daft question Platty - can I come and hear yours on 'take off' to check I am not going barmy. pm me if that would be ok. It would be useful to know what it should sound like if its different to mine.

If it is a sheared manifold stud it will almost certainly be No 1 stud. This is the only stud you can see without pulling things to bits.
Look under the passenger seat just above and right of the alternator. You will see the exaust manifold and No 1 stud (if it's still there) or a sheared bolt if it isn't

I know this to be a common bongo problem, luckily i havent suffered this (yet?) I've only heard the sound described on forum, and never actually heard it... can others that have actually suffered from this problem comment on whether it takes place only when pulling away? I thought it was more like a high pitched,fairly constant shriek,regardless of whether pulling away or not... Am i miles out?

For me this is purely on pulling away after the key is first turned. It is irrelevant what time of day it is or if she is hot or cold already. As I pull away from stationery it makes the noise briefly and then thats it - no more, not every time I put my foot down. it wont happen again until I have turned off the ignition and restarted and pulled away again. Could this be something else altogether? to be honest as it has always done it - I jsut assumed it was normal

Sounds like it might only be Bongo Owners Angst, we all get it - usually in the early stages of ownership. There's a clinic you can take the Bongo too where specialists conduct several tests and give expert opinions. I believe there is a clinic coming up shortly in Buxton but you will need to get there early as I'm told the diagnosticians raid the medicine cabinet and are showing signs of surgical spirits abuse by early afternoon. You won't get a lot of sense out of them once that happens.

I am not convinced that there is anything wrong - it my just be Dydo's waking up voice after all. Perhaps someone who is still sober on Friday can have a look - meainwhile I am going to have a listen to the dulcet tones of the Plattymobile - if they wont name it - I will. We have to call it something when we see them.

Probably not but could it be something starter related,
sticking solenoid ? or even reading your post again alternator
belts ? my thinking is that it only happens when you have
used the starter therefor putting the battery/starter under
load, next time you start it wait till it stops then turn on
all the electrics lights heater rear screen so putting a lot
of load on the alternator and see if it come back.
Ours sometimes makes a twittering noise in damp weather
that goes off when the air con is on a little squirt of WD40
fixes it for a wile but it comes back.
