Gearbox problems - no more than 3rd and jumping reverse
Have just bought a Bongo and am new to the forum, so hello to all!
On the way up the M1, it became apparant that the automatic gearbox would not get higher than 3rd (so it was 50mph at about 3000 rpm). When I arrived home and tried to reverse, it was quite high revs until the gear engaged and it "spluttered" back.
Any ideas and any help would be helpful. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, so if this is a service / replacement box problem, a pointer in the right direction for a specialist would be fantastic.
Otherwise, my first Bongo is wonderful !

Hold light is off. When it is engaged at let's say 40 mph nothing happens. I presume (only presume) that somehow it is stuck in a mode that only allow gears 1,2,3, hence high revs at 50mph. It seems to have the hold engaged, but without the light / switch. Is there someway to reset the electronic for the gearbox ? Just to test if it is an electronic problem. Or are other problems the cause, perhaps ?

Bongomonkey. Although it may well be that the problem turns out to be simple to resolve (AFT fluid, electronic sensor problem etc. rather than gearbox fault per se), you haven't said whether you bought it from a dealer or private. If a dealer (and really even if private) you should be able to contact the vendor and discuss things (I find it hard to imagine that even a private vendor can completely escape some obligation to explain how something not pointed out by them happened so soon after purchase).
Good luck - keep us posted.

Wayne has a gearbox still, if worst comes to worst.
