Could I use VSR as low voltage cutoff

Post by mikeonb4c » Fri Nov 23, 2007 3:17 pm

I'm trying to locate a cheap device for cutting off power from my leisure battery before it goes dead flat. The ciggie lighter ones won't do I think as they cut off at 11.6v and I might want to run lower than that. What's needed is a device with adjustable cutoff but so far I've only found circuit diagrams for devices to be used with electric r/c airplanes, aand a company that wants £60 for one they sell to police forces.

Then I had a thought (Woa!). The Towsure VSR has an adjuster so you can change the voltage threshold for the charging circuit to the leisure battery to be enabled. Woud I be right in saying that - provided the threshold can be moved down low enough, you could use the device to only allow currnt to pass if voltage is above - say - 10v. The obvious thing is take it off and try it but I'd rather not fiddle with a device that is busy and working well in my car just so I can try weird experiments. Anyone able to advise?

Thanks chums 8)

I've got a spare VSR, let me have a go experimenting over the weekend if time permits (don't tell Vanvliet - he's on my list of things to do sometime soonish  )

Excellent Dandy & thanks. I could (nearly) have missed the obvious if it works. All part of my electric blanket project. 10v cutoff is the target but I'll take what I can get.

Cripes - I still owe vanv. pics of my 3-point seat belt mounting. Do you still want them vanv. (about 6 months overdue)
