Leaking - Water in to cab area.
Hi can anyone advise, I have water getting in to the rear cab area quite a lot this as become obvious with the recent heavy rain. I checked the roof seal and it does appear that the metal part of the seal that grips the roof is not tight on the auto free top roof itself. The rubber appears ok. I am concerned that this will cause damage.
As anyone else suffered water getting in? If so how did you cure it?
Hope someone can help.
thanks
Shane

When you lif the roof is there evidence of water past the seal?
It's unlikley the seals the problem if it looks ok as there's nowhere for the water to get in past the tent in the amount you mention.
Is it coming past the headlining on the roof area in the van? IF water was to get past the AFT seal then the only way in to the van I can see is through the grommet on the offside rear where the cables pop through.
How's the rear tailgate seal/lock? Is the tailgate closing securely?
Just some pointers...................

I have inspected the roof seal and although it does stand a little proud from the actual AFT I don't believe it would allow that amount of water in. However, whislt mopping the water up and squeeging the water from the headlinning I noticed the roof window sealant was not brilliant but again I am not sure that would allow that amount of water in.
I then noticed when I looked at the window from the outside that there wasn't a seal around the roof window, I don't know if there should be. Anyone confirm yes or no?
what I have done is ductape around the window and where the seal stands a little proud for now.

One question, did the water come in whilst the van was parked and stationary, or were you driving in rain alot before you noticed the problem?
One way of maybe helping find whereabouts it's coming in would be to put down paper (preferable not newspaper as the ink will run) up in the tent floor area. That way you can see whereabouts it's originating from then investigate further.
Finding water leaks can be a real pain but with patience and maybe someone using a hose whilst you look inside you will find it.
I can take a look later at the roof window if you want to see if it has an obvious seal around it.
Good luck.

roof window leak
Hi Shane
If the water is coming in round the window in the roof, you'd be surprised how much can come in through a small crack. If you can leave the window area for 4-5 daysto dry, apply some "Captain Tolley's Creepin' Crack Cure" to the seal area and let it dry according to the instructions. I'd give it a couple of applications. You would be astounded at what it can fix. If you want to do a "belt and braces job", apply a bead of silicon afterwards.....job done!
Cheers
Helen
P.S. I found a supplier on t'internet

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

This may sound silly shane, but is the tent getting trapped slightly at the front of the freetop? If in driving rain, the water will be pushed along the inner runner and may come into the cabin anywhere!
It may not be immediately obvious if the tent is getting trapped, carefully examine the seal at the front of the freetop to see if there are any kinks or discrepencies in the seal... just a thought, but gotta be worth a quick look?
