Strange Noises Wile Turning

Post by jackstringer » Sun Nov 04, 2007 12:10 pm

I get a noise similar to a belt rubbing when I go around corners and its getting louder. It mainly happens when turning right and mainly on roundabouts. To start with it only happened if I went around a roundabout wile accelerating but now it happens when I do a U turn on full lock.

If you 'blip' the throttle you hear the noise get louder so its not connected to rotation on the wheel but to the revs of the engine. Could it just be a lack of steering fluid if so how do I check/replace.

I have a 12month warranty that I am only 2 months into. But I don't want to do a 100 mile round trip just because of a little bit of oil.

This is the reservoir, under the driver's seat Jack. The noise might be a slipping PAS pump belt.............

Just had a look and there is only a inch of fluid in there so its rather low.

Might ring up the people I bought it from as I think if the fluid gets any lower then I could run into issues. Looks like there maybe a leak from somewhere near the front end but I will leave that to the dealer. I just need to figure out which fluid to use.

Most use automatic transmission fluid in the power steering.
