Digital temp guage for engine

Post by missfixit70 » Fri Nov 02, 2007 9:18 pm

Fitted one of these, the same as Brorabongo, don't like it :( Scared me silly the first couple of times it squeaked over 114 degrees as I cruised down Puddletown bypass at 70mph (ish  ).
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

We have one it's not been over 104 yet even on big hills
but after cleaning the inter cooler it as not gone over 94
but that's just running about although it usually gets up
around 98 with that kind of use, any idea what temp the
rad fans cut in at???

Look under the front bumper in the middle you can see a plastic air
intake, if you look down it you will see what looks like a small radiator
or oil cooler, I sprayed it with degreaser then used a paint brush with
hot soapy water you can get to the back of it by putting your hand
further under the car, then I hosed it down with water, the engine
seems to be running about 4 deg cooler and accelerating a bit faster.

Nowt to worry about AFAIK.

Had it up to 119 deg a few times, no problems. Soon drops back down to just below 100 deg. (once passed the boy racer )

All depends where you stick it?

I tested my probe before fitting in the Bongo, by inserting it in one of my orifices. I got a steady 37 deg reading..........Yes, it was in my mouth, under my tongue

You've got me thinking Ralph. I've got a compressor and paraffin gun which I used with great success to clean my engine. I put gunk in it and sprayed with that (it had a real pressure wash type spray) and then I filled it with water and repeated the exercise. Worked a treat and removed stubborn old oil etc. Mind you, i suppose the stuff in the intercooler mesh probably has nothing to do with oiled dirt - I wonder if gunk is a good general purpose remover?

gotcha there brora. But first my back has to mend, and the missus has noticed that Bongo related activities have been behind my bad back episodes this year so I'm going to have to be sneaky about it for a bit or I'll get a shedload of 'I told you so but you dont listen do you, oh no, dont know why I put up with you and that Mango mistress of yours, and while your back is out of action and you are stuck on the bed watching Top Gear, guess whose having to run the house!!!'

I think you get my drift

I am always been accused by the wife of spending too much time and money on the Bongo aswell. Hope your back problem eases soon mike.

Cheers.

When cleaning the cooler like any radiator you don't want
to bend any of the fins or what ever you would call them
all you want to do is make sure air can get through so it
can do its job.
