Hi guys, we have to get new CV joints whatever they are! I have checked ebay and United Autoparts do CV joints for £39 quid plus a tenner p andp.
They have a 1 year guarantee.
Bongo bits cost almost twice that.
Anyone had any experience of this and why the massive price difference?
I would appreciate any thoughts, ie which is best, is it quality or proce or is there nothing in it? Ta Salmon x

cv joints
Hi Salmon
Depending on budget, I'd go for original Mazda bits, the originals will probably fit better and last longer. Also check out the Club shop...they include postage. There's a b****y great spring retainer not included in the kit, and it's sometimes damaged in getting the old joint off...might be worth getting one...
Cheers

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Hi Salmonhaircut ! . .I replaced my offside CV last Saturday ..fairly straightforward..but then I'm an old grease monkey, and I'm fortunate in having access to workshop facilites. .
I'm surprised that you were quoted such a low price .mine from AMk Automotive; part no TDL9593R is a pattern replacement @ 83 quid plus 12 return deposit for old unit . .'fraid I had to chew the bugger to bits to get it off the shaft . .some come off with a sharp smack ..others have to be persuaded . .the ring referred to by Helen&Tony ..is the problem..NOT a bloody big ring either . .its a split ..thin ring ,that sits in a groove on the drive shaft . .the theory is that compresses in its groove as the shaft splines enter the hub . .and on locating a machined groove in the hub ..springs open to secure the shaft in place ...Haynes et al will confidently advise you to 'hold drive shaft firmly and strike CV joint smartly with copper headed hammer etc etc . .he he he !|!..oh I will admit ..sometimes it does work . .!
I would question the quality of your quoted replacement at that price though . .you dont want to visit the problem again
The problem is caused by split gaiters on the CV ..throwing the grease out and allowing water and grit into the joint . .basically its a knuckle that allows suspension up and down movement whilst still transmitting drive to the hub .. shop around for prices . .maybe Mazda prices are quite competitive ..good luck
