Hi Gina,
Just a thought. Check your coolant level, when it runs low, there is a ticking noise from behind the dash particularly when accelerating.
It might sound like pinking.
Cheers,
Tim

Are you running on pure diesel? I listened to a couple of BF members recently saying they thought Bongos running with veg oil in the mix could sound a bit like they were pinking at times. I've not used veg oil yet and I have no idea whether this is sound thinking, or if it matters, but I mention it just in case. No doubt veg oil users with confirm either way

Could be the start of the exhaust manifold gasket/stud leaking causing a high pitched "twittering"

Find out why it's low ASAP Gina or you risk damaging the engine. It shouldn't "gurgle"

Damn...you've spotted my secret method of telling when my coolant needs topping up.

Not sure why it does it but the sound is very distinctive and has pre warned me on a few occasions of trouble ahead with leaky pipes. Problem is that it took me a couple of ovrheats to realise what the noise meant

Sounds to me like trickling water just after start up but when you look under the van there is no sign of any water dripping anywhere.
