Slight rattle when I start the engine up

Post by Nick65 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 4:34 pm

I have a slight rattle (Like wheel bearings rolling around sort of sound) when I start the engine up, and I also just noticed that my car made a very light hum as i pull away from lights etc

Any tips?

If the rattle is only with a cold engine (e.g., first thing in the morning), then it could be valves perhaps. Is the hum felt as well as heard?

The Rattle seems to have died off now - Humming has gone as well???

Will see what happens at 9am tomorrow when it's cold

Cheers

Hi Nick, lots of bongo's suffer from this phenomena... It could be a few things, firstly, does the rattle noise alter/dissapear when you turn the steering wheel? If so, check the power steering fluid.

Check the clamps holding down the engine cowling.

Lift the bonnet, and check down the right hand side (bonnet open) for a pipe (can't remember what the pipe is for now) the pipe is known to pop of its hanger causing a rattling noise.

Check the tools in the sliding door cubby.

The engine gives off a different vibration when cold/warming up so you may find its something un-related to the actual engine, and a weird harmonic is causing the rattle from elsewhere

A lot of bongo's make this rattling noise nick, and sometime's the culprit is never found
