Misting up and Water

Hi hope someone can advise me on the following 3 questions:

1. I went out in the Bongo last night and the windscreen kept misting up even though I had the fan on and the seeting to demist. Air was coming from the vents on to the windscreen but the only way I could stop the misting was to use the air conditioning. If I switched off the a/c but kept the fan on the windscreen misted along with drivers and passenger side widows. a/c back on very soon demisted again.

2. Went out to the bongo this morning all misted up turned on the fan and drips or what appeared to be water wereon the lower part of the windscreen.

3. I operated the heated rear window last night, the light comes on at the dash but there was no demisting on the rear window. Further to this the rear wiper doesnt work?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

every car ive ever had in the uk has misted up to hell in the cold and rain .. particularly if you get in with wet jackets etc ... i was just thinking the other day how refreshing it is with the bongo that you can expell the damp air with the aircon - bongoing for me just keeps getting better and better ! .. particularly since i figured out how to adjust the steering wheel !!!

1. usual state with any cars unless heated windscreens i think.
2. were you sleeping in it to get condensation
3. got to check the wiring between the tailgate and the bongo body. very likely a couple of wires have chaffed in the grommet. i did a factsheet on this in the members area.

thanks for the replies

1. I have never had a vehicle before with a/con but saying that I have never had the problem with the windscreen misting. So do bongo drivers use the a/con to stop the misting??????

2. NO I was not sleeping in it, I went out to it this morning and the drops of water appeared when I put the blower on.

3. Thank goodness for experience I will look for your fact sheet re: rear heater and wiper. Do you remember what you saved the fact sheet as, what title did you give it?

1. ours steams up, just crack open a window a bit.
2 must be damp and warm inside to allow the condensation to form
3. look under rear door electrics in the fact sheet area. only did it for a 95 reg bongo cause thats what i have. newer ones could have different colours for the loom but it gives you a starting point. ours wasnt working like yourself so stripped it all down.

Mine mists when wet and cold. Its a big windscreen. I seem to remember years ago when I drove vans for a living (yep can you believe someone once trusted me to do that!) that they behaved similarly. They seem fine at first but then lose the battle even with the blower on full. But as soon as I put on the magic Bongo aircon, it clears. So its no problem overall

It may be worth checking if the drain from the air con is not blocked
or it could be you have a very small leak from the heater radiator
other than that it may just be the nature of the beast.

I think it is worth checking the drains around the heating system. If the scuttle drain blocks up it can drip water on the fan and that will certainly cause misting. The other possibility is a leaking heater matrix. If you get a coolant smell in the cab then it usually the matrix. Keep a check on the coolant level just to be safe. Probably a blocked drain though.

This may sound stupid....but this has happened before.....just check that your air intake is set to take in air from outside the Bongo and not set to recirculation........this is a common cause of misting up........forgive me if you already know this but a lot of people are unaware of it.......Alan

Very good point that Alan - so easy to overlook the blindingly obvious
