Hi, just been reading up on the cooling system. Can anyone answer me this?
Last day of holiday we suffered a radiator weld failure and dumped some coolant. Temperature gauge didn't move at all before I realised and stopped. Can I assume my engine isn't trashed? Still seems to work OK.
mikeon4c I am also at an age where it's important to do stuff that makes me feel good! Didn't know there was one, time for a low coolant alarm kit.

changabang - yep, I find it more satisfying to fit a coolant loss kit. I can then follow my hunch that my hoses are in good nick and not worry about replacing them. If my hunch is wrong (quite possible) the coolant loss alarm is my safety net. For me, it has all the excitement of tight-roping walking knowing there's a safety net if I fall.
