final drive ratio change?

Post by andyfb78 » Sat Sep 22, 2007 12:29 pm

I think i know the answer to this (ie no), but thought I'd see if there is a magic answer...

Does the bongo share the diffs with any other vehicle, and if so, can the final drive ratio be changed to a taller one (lower engine revs)?

Cheers

im no expert on friendies, but arent they fwd? i.e. the diff is part of the box? in that case it might be easier to find what other mazdas use that type of bellhousing, and you might just find a gearbox with a different output ratio.

if its a rwd, then like in e series, there are different ratios which you can put it. starting with rx4 and rx5 diffheads which had i think 3.6-3.7:1 ratio, and going up to 4.8:1 which are used in ford couriers/mazda b2000 utes, etc. just make sure that the splines line up. again like with e series, short wheel base models have different spline pattern to the long wheel base models.

Most are 4wd, I guess but 2wd ones are RWD. The vast majority are auto.

The Ford Ranger is 4wd in the UK but are the diffs lower or higher? Certainly the rolling circumference of Ranger tyres will be more, so that might point to lower final drive ratios
