Firstly if its the original jap central locking, check the wires going through to the drivers door near the hinges.
They chaffe and snap

Hi pippin I'm not too sure about where the central locking originated but its quite dated so I would say from a while back in japan I have taken a picture of the fob but I can't work out how to send it !

waycar8 thanks for that I haven't look yet, but as the central locking is working close up to the door but not over a distance could this still be a broken cable ? I'm off to have a look.

Many thanks to you both Russ[/img]

hmmn, try stripping the fob and gently cleaning the circuit panel and behind the buttons for unlock and lock.

other than that you may need to take off the door card and clean the contacts on the central locking mechanism
