Another Hose to watch!!!

Well My obsession with coolant hoses has paid off again as I think I have averted a major one here!!
And a quick check may help others too!!!!

Recent threads about the bleed hose chaffing on the alternator have drawn attention to that particular hose but I have found another one to be equally concerned about as this one chaffs also and its in a bad place to check too.

It is situated underneath the drivers seat (its the one centre of both pics) and I think Im right takes hot water to the rear heater matrix this hose chaffs on its underside against the starter motor (I think) the second pic is best as it shows the damp patch on top of the starter.

The one on mine seems to have had another sleeve hose over it at some stage but it has started to deteriorate due to the rubbing, the actual hose inside is in a bad state especially around the bit that joins the engine it has swollen.

Does anyone know what the hose is called and where can I get one from??

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Dabs you are right about averting a major problem, That is the hose that developed a pinprick leak, that cooked our first engine, cannot remember where we got the replacement from, it was almost 2 years ago

This hose went bang on mine DURING the MOT last week!

Hot coolant everywhere, especially all over the mechanic.

He admitted to poking around there...but it must have been ready to go.

Anyway he cut the end off and refixed it and its been ok since... but I need a new hose too..can we get a discount for bulk buying dabs?

I know you do a check daily for leaks, it just shows that it pays to do so...

Yet another coolant change imminent then eh dabs?

I'll check mine tomorrow,whilst sleeving the bleed pipe with garden hose...

Checked mine today slight mark underneath on what looks like the outer hose nothing to worry about. Anyway like before i've tied it back a little just as a precaution. thanks for the info Dave

I wish that a garage/supplier would come up with a complete replacement silicon hose kit / drive in - - swop out service for the Bongo !!!!
I just want to enjoy driving the beast like my other cars without this constant checking routine ( sure as fate a hose will probably sneak a leak as soon as I drop the bonnet / engine cover anyway

After a very close call its now sorted and the Bongo is back on the road.I was very lucky with this as the hose was breaking up and swollen at the point at which it joined the engine as I arrived at the garage coolant was pouring out underneath it was that bad.Bear in mind that this happened very swiftly after a full garage hose check and Coolant change only 6 weeks ago at the replacement of the bleed hose.

In my opinion it should be common practise among dealers/converters and the prospective purchasers that all hoses are reviewed and inspected thoroughly and a report of condition given.IMHO

I have in recent weeks purely through observation found three leaks which resulted in
1)The Bleed Hose being renewed
2)WaterPump being renewed
3)Hose over Starter Moter being renewed

I had up until this point had impeccable service from the Bongo so in My view these are NOT unreliable vehicles,the one governing factor in any problems encountered with a Bongo is AGE.None of Us have any real idea as to the way in which these vehicles were treated back in Japan so as such the 12 mths that I have had with NO problems at all is testament to the vehicle.

I am now quite relieved that these hoses have been replaced as I should not in theory have to bother with these for at least 10 yrs(apart from the checks) as I think that the ones that were replaced where the originals from first build (mines a 97).

I ask and warn You all that it is imperative that You check the hoses at least once a week,fit a coolant loss alarm kit(if You feel it necessary) and make a habit of looking underneath the Bongo after being parked up especially on a solid floor as any loss will show up on the floor (this is how I found my leaks)

So Once again Peeps CHECK YOUR HOSES It could save You a lot of money!!!
