Loose fanbelt?

Post by ChrisT » Fri Aug 24, 2007 8:46 pm

Our Bongo makes a shrill squeaking noise that stops when we hit the accelerator. An AA guy said it might be a loose fanbelt.

Anyone have any advice on how to check whether this is right and whether it would be easy to fix without taking it to a garage?

Cheers!

You have two "fan" belts and a air con belt. You can check them under the passenger seat. However it could well be the No 1 exaust manifold stud sheared off. This is just above and slightly right of the alternator. The only stud you can see right by the metal heatshield. That would be my guess. Garage job but not expensive.

Had the same thing especially if it had been standing
overnight in wet weather, belts were ok found it was
the compressor clutch on the front of the air con
compressor probably should not have but gave it
a squirt of WD 40 down the little gap between the
pulley and clutch silence since with no ill effects
as yet.
