Repaired drivers window switch

Post by missfixit70 » Thu Aug 16, 2007 5:04 pm

Having had a fruitless search for a replacement drivers window switch that doesn't cost the earth, I decided to attempt a repair on mine. As I mentioned before, I got the passenger side on /off switch working by giving the contacts a good scrape, but the rocker switch for the drivers side had come off completely thanks to the round lugs breaking. On principal I refused to pay £10 at a scrappy for a measly rocker switch!
I mixed up some araldite, then after letting it sit for a couple of minute to start setting, applied it withy a cocktail stick around the area that had broken. i built it up slightly bigger than necessary & used the cocktail stick to keep it in shape until it set.
Once it had been left over night, 10 minutes with a needle file set shaped both sides to get a fit, stuck the 1st spring & plunger back in, gave up geting the ball bearing & 2nd spring in, screwed it back together - making sure the switch slider is in the rest position (marked on the pcb). plugged it back in - works perfectly :D
£115 saved, I'm sure it won't last forever, but, I'll keep looking for a scrapyard replacement that doesn't take the p*** pricewise 8)
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Miss f your a better mender than me. I thought i could do a similar job and ended up with bits coming out all over the place. My passenger window has never worked since i bought my Bongo and when i put the switch back in it still doesn't work. but at least my drivers still does. Thankfully the a/c works though!!!!!!

I don't know if this will work, but the switches look identical to a Mazda 626. If you can find one, it may be cheaper than a repair!

I noticed that the electric mirror adjusting / four way switch was the same one fitted to an MX3 in our local scrappy .
