Fitting my low coolant detector

Post by corblimey » Tue Aug 21, 2007 6:54 pm

I started to fit my low coolant dectector over the weekend.

Not too taxing a job although I would like to make a few points.

1) I started the job on a Sunday afternoon thinking I'd got everything I needed. After opening the bag and reading the instructions I realised I needed to get myself an inline fuse holder and 3a fuse. Not a show stopper.

2) In the fact sheet (I'm I right in thinking Bonza wrote it) there is a section about slicing into the fuse panel on fuse #7 and it's mentioned that if you've transfered power for the rhs blinds to your leisure battery you have to modify the installation accordingly. For those of you like me that patched your leisure battery into your fuse panel then you simply need to terminate your fuse holder with a spade terminal and patch into the top of fuse # 7. Dead simple. :D

3) It may be a good idea to provide future kits with at least one of the power leads from the sensor pre-terminated. If you were to terminate the -ve you could crimp a ring on it. Better still maybe you could terminate the +ve with an inline fuse holder (which would have solved my first little dilema). The reason I suggest it is it will help prevent connecting the sensor with the incorrect polatiry. Some twonk is bound to do it no matter how many times they've read the instructions... coucgh, cough  In my defense I've always worked to the convention that the striped wire is +ve.

Just need my Mason temp gauge now.

Thanks guys, great work :D

I am going to fit mine this weekend, the only prob for me is i dont have electric blinds, the leisure battery connects to the interior lights and the ciggy lighter fuses, so which would be the best way for me to connect the live wire and in line fuse.? which i must admit just bought after reading this post, i know i know read the instructions first. you would think it would be supplied.

I've not been in a van without elecy blinds, may be the fuse board is still wired up the same. Stick a meter into the top blade socket of #7 and see if you get 12v with the ignition on. If so your in luck.

You can then patch your inline fuse holder into that with a spade connector.

Just yours for the EGR dave,i need new glowplugs,so i'm having the EGR disabled at the same time as mike changes my plugs.

The black steel gearbox shroud has to be removed for both jobs, so i may as well tie both jobs into one...

Got that 36mm spanner mate?

with regards to finding a live wire with a patched fuse box, I just followed mikeonb4s route of using the light blue and white wire coming out of the fuse box ...worked for me.... .... http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... highlight=

Didn't include a fuse in co's it would add to the cost and many peeps already have the odd fuse holder in their tool/spares box. Some choose not to put this fuse in. As for terminating the pos/neg module wires. If I put a ring on some would choose to earth to a handy earth wire and so on. Carn't please all of the peeps all of the time. Compromise rules. I belive it is a pretty comprehensive kit that can be adapted a little by those who have a some experience. e.g. You don't have to earth to the battery neg, any GOOD earthing point will do, but for the inexperienced I thought it best to suggest the battery as this way you cannot go wrong.
