Thanks to all who've come back with helpful suggestions. As I'm about to take the kids to France I decided to leave well alone until after the hols. I will of course post any updaates which might be useful.

The only snip I had was the unkindest kind and that was under local...what a mistake to make.. I love the beep its what makes the bongo different from other cars and having locked my keys in once or twice and left the lights on in previous cars it can beep at me all it likes, I do find it annoying if I am cleaning the car with the radio on and it is beeping all the time but I just stick the ignition on or start it and get the lovely smell of chips ahh. If it aint broke don't fix it. Happy motoring
