Replacements for Continental Vanco Contact 2's

Post by marmotte farcie » Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:01 pm

After collecting a screw in the middle of the tread of my n/s/r Conti, I phoned our local tyre emporium to order a replacement.
Imagine my dismay to find that they appear to be discontinued in the 215/65 R15 size.
Looks like the barely worn o/s/r will have to be the spare and I'll have to find a matching pair of 215/65R15's of something else for the rears.
The fronts are Vanco 2's and are brand new so I'll need something on the rear wheels that'll be compatible with them.
Any suggestions for rear tyres that perform like the Vanco 2's?

As an aside the Ultraseal that I used in the Contis seemed to prevent a catastrophic deflation of the tyre but renders it unrepairable according to the local tyrefitters.

Hi Marmotte (love the name....do you spend a lot of time in the French Alps?)

I'm assured by my garage/supplier that Conti Vanco 215s are still available and indeed I had a pair fitted only a couple of weeks ago. They don't hold them as stock but had no trouble ordering them for next day delivery.

There was a hiccough in supply recently but I believe that it has now been sorted.

Someone is telling you porkies.

cheers

Thanks for all the responses.
I've got on to mytyres.com who supposedly have stock but will take a week to get a tyre to me!
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I just had a pair of Vanco 215's fitted to the rear axle last thursday - no problems or comments about availability £150 incl balance from my local tyre depot ( front 195 tyres are cheaper) . They are a great tyre .Just took a trip up to Oban over the weekend and they grip well in wet and dry conditions .
