Heavy knocking

Can any one enlighten me what the heavy knocking can be coming from what seems the front of my freda. Its just passed the mot and all bushes and link bars are all ok. It does this on the smallest of bumps and even when the car is not loaded. This sounds really loud from outside too. HELP !!!!!!!

had all my links done and I still get a "clunking" from the front end. Don't know what it's like from outside though.

Its often the anti roll bar brackets on a bongo that can cause the clonking,but it shouldn't have passed the mot with this fault, and it should have been picked up on really.

The other cause can be the usual drop links,but this too should have been picked up on.

I'm not sure the droplinks are a testable item but would have expected the tester to have picked up on this and told you about it/them, if only as an aside.

I'm with Daddy - I wrapped some tyre inner tube around the bar between it and the bushes - worked a treat

Mine 'clonks' from the front too. Had the drop links replaced and the front end thouroughly checked over and nothing could be found which might be the cause of it.

Yet still it clonks.

I also get a 'click' on application of the brakes, not sure what that is either. It sounds like an air con clicking on and off but louder, but only does it 50% of the time when the brakes are applied, and comes from the front end.

The only cure I have found is to turn up the stereo

.......and I bet the 50% of the time is after reversing

........it's nothing to worry about, just the pads moving on the caliper slides - (although maybe best to have the brakes checked over anyway for peace of mind)

Well i'd never even thought of trying to make that connection. Although you could well be right, as on the narrow lanes down here we do seem to be in reverse about 50% of the time in the Bongo, backing up to the nearest passing place

I'm going to listen out for a pattern from now on.

...which explains why one or two Cornish Bongo owners have complained of high fuel consumption. Short runs, up and down hills, narrow lanes. Must be the worst territory for the dear old Bongo.

I too have the clicking thing from the front when I apply the brakes Lovejoy - always after I've just changed direction forwards / reverse or vice versa. I'm due to fit new front brake pads before long and would be v interested to hear from anyone who has a thought on how to cure the problem (my wife thinks the answers I give her to things like this are just so much flannel - better to get rid of the click before she comments on it!).

Last time I had loud knocking from the front wheels on my car it was because the wheelnuts were loose - OOPS!

Yep, and a fair few broken nearside wing mirrors too I suspect. Those innocent looking hedgerows conceal some very immovable granite walls, I tend to drive with them folded in when on a narrow lane having been caught out once or twice in the past

Mind you, its great that the Bongo is narrow. Must be hell in a T4

Could it be the pensioner that got in the way of the on-coming Bongo?

Front drop links was the cause of my knocking, once I'd removed the pensioner.
