What's this thing on my exhaust?

Looking under the Bongo today I noticed somthing attached to the exhaust I have never seen before. I have been thinking about a replacement exhaust and don't know whether I need this, whether it relates to the exhaust or just happens to be clamped on to it, anyone any ideas?

I don't know but, if you have the 2 battery set-up, it could be the valve that's worked by the switch (with an engine picture on it) to the right of the steering wheel - it's used to warm the engine up quicker in cold weather (not needed in this country).

We do have the 2 battery set-up. If I was getting the exhaust changed do you think I just do away with it or should it be possible to fit it to the new system, hoping to go for a professionally built stainless system.

Do without it, not needed in this country. I have the same set up and never need it.

If that's what it is, you don't need it - do you have twin batteries under the bonnet?

Yep always have has since we got it, I believe it is th original 2 engine battery set-up.

Reckon it's the valve that you no longer need then - mine was removed before I got it.

Seems a shame to remove it when it's been ther since the van was new. Surely it's not that much colder in Japan then Scotland?

Apparently it is in the mountains - hence the twin battery arrangement. You really don't need it in the UK and I would suspect you'd actually have to import an exhaust with it - it doesn't just clamp round the pipe.
