Drivers door rattle....

Post by deeps » Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:39 pm

I have exactly the same problem as Simon Jones back on 2005...

I found his post with a search but it is now locked and had no replies.. doh!

I have taken the door panel off and think I have narrowed it down to a rod with a white plastic fixing near the lock. I can't see anything out of place, broken, or loose. Please help it's driving (gettit..) me loopy.

Seems to occur when the van goes over a bump which makes it wobble slightly from side to side.

I was hoping someone may have some suggestions on a mysterious rattle/click/clunk that seems to come from just behind the drivers front door. I have so far removed the door card & the panel that covers the seatbelt recoil unit, but been unable to find anything obviously loose. I'm beginning to wonder if it is the door itself moving & making a clunk from the locking mechanism.

Hi Deeps I had a similar noise it turned out to be the door itself if you take the door card or you will see that the door skin is bonded to a strengthening bar down the center of the door the bonding had gave way and the noise was the door skin rattling against the strengthening bar.
Hope this helps.

Bongopatrol,

I saw the bonding you mention, kind of a white glue, nothing seemed loose but I will remove the card again and check more closely.

It's good to have a lead in any case, thx.

I'd the same problem and used expanding foam - worked a treat :)

good idea - will definitely use the foam if I find the panel has come loose, we be 5gall drums of the 2 parts of the foam at work and mix it together so I don't think I'll be short
