roof buzzer and light on dash

Post by rob and karen » Sun Aug 05, 2007 10:26 pm

hello all
was wondering if you guys had anymore info than what i have got , my neighbour has got a bongo and when he got it (private sale ) the seller said that the roof light and alarm were playing up so he was removing the roof sensor unit from the rear driver side panel , my questions are how many roof sensor switches are there as we could only find the two front , also it seems that when its all connected you put the ignition on and the buzzer will sound coupled with the light on dash but if you raise the roof slightly and then relower it the buzzer stops but the light on the dash is still lit up ? is this a switch problem or the module in the rear panel
thanks in advance
rob

Rob,
I to had the same problem. Try the below (a previous answer to a similar question) and see if this works before removing anything.
it worked for me.

"I have sorted mine out today with the help of a friend (fork lift truk engineer)
Open the roof slighty about 2 foot (its easier to reach the micro switchs)
put a bit of cardboard between the switch contacts. if this stops the bleeping do what i did next
unscrew the black part of the microswitch only slightly put a screw driver behind and lever (very gently not too much) towards the cream coloured plastic part that the metal strip touches and re tighten.
Then do the same to the cream part (2 screws on these) and lever towards the black part and re tighten.
Do this to both sides (I only had to do the front to cure my bleeping) and test.
Mine works how it should now (no bleeping when it's down corectly).
The idea is basically to get the 2 parts closer together."

Cheers

well we played with the micro switches and found it was the driverside causing the problem  , so after trying all ways to adjust it and found nothing worked , so in all the micro switch is knackered , so i had a small sticky pad and stuck it between the metal strip and the switch mechanism , this worked a treat , now we get the bleeping when the roof is going up and the light on when it should be , and when the roof is all the way down the bleep stops and the dash light goes out as it should , so we have left it as is to try for a little while if this works its a quick fix without having to remove the switch which is near on impossible on the driverside due to not having enough cable to pull it through
just thought i would tell you guys although its not ideal it works at the moment will keep you posted if anything happens

Hi Rob,
If yours is the same as mine, you can get to the driver's side microswitch wiring from inside the roof. (Think I had to undo the canvas at the zip first). My microswitch had disintgrated, and nothing would shut the beeping up, so I cut the wires to the switch. This still didn't stop the beeping when the roof was closed so I realised that the microswitch must be closed when the roof is down. Connecting the cut wires together and insulating them well solved the problem. One day I will get round to replacing the switch, but I have too much work to do on my boat at the moment.

The microswitches on the nearside are a completely different matter. I can't see any way of getting to their wiring without removing the roof! :o
