brakes

Wonder if you chaps can help me? Had service done
last week and check list says front pads worn 20/ 30 %
Had new ones fitted 29/09/06. I am very careful on
brakes and wonder if I am being swizzled. Report says
'steering wheel off centre'. Advise W/A (whatever that
is?) Was not told at time and only just checking. Van has
done 14793 km since last service . Mileage at replacement
of pads 48310. Don't want to go steaming in if this is normal.
Can anyone advise? Present mileage 61550.

Sylvia :?

Previous service 31/07/06

Does 20/30% mean worn by that much or that much left? If the former then that's fine, nothing to worry about. An auto is usually heavier on brake pads than a manual but even so a new set of pads should last longer than 12 months and 10k miles. If unsure then the only way to tell is jack it up, take the wheel off and take a look.

Steering wheel not central? - usually a sign that the tracking has either been knocked out and/or adjusted without lining the steering wheel up when doing it.

Thanks Veg-Ian. Just says 'front pads 20/30% worn'
will have to check with them what this means.

20% worn is not a lot and can only be a guess at best. they could be only 10% worn. In my opinion you have no worries.

Ah putting it that way round reads worn by 20-30%. As Haydn quite rightly says minimal and nothing to worry about.

Big sigh of relief; great to be able to rely
on the Bongo Boys when you're just a
'weak woman'. Thanks chaps! :)
