Leaking dif

Post by Bongo Badness » Sat Jul 28, 2007 3:14 pm

I moved the bongo the other day to load it up and noticed that where it had been parked there was a small patch of oil under where the diff had been.

The oil only appeared when the bongo was moved. I know that it was not there before.

Its as if it spat the oil out when it first moved off.

There is not a constant trail of oil and it only seems to happen after it has done a few miles.

i.e it does not happen if I have only moved it a few feet.

Any Ideas?

Are we talking about the rear diff? You should be able to see where it's leaking from, cos' it's usually just rusty looking.

Could be that when the diff has been working the oil becomes warm and thinner and may be leaking out of the drain plug or similar????

Have you had a look at the diff to see where it's leaking from - it should be fairly obvious?

My front diff once spat the oil out of the breather hole. Apparently caused by the breather being blocked. It has been fine since it was cleaned.
