Mystery wiring

Post by DickieP » Fri Jul 27, 2007 11:28 am

Whilst poking agout under the dash trying to locate the source of my blower problems/trying to find the fuse box, I came across some mystery wiring. 4 wires (one red, one blue, 2 white leading to a blue plug) emerge from under the central console into the passenger foot well. After removing the central console cover, I followed the wires back past the handbrake, down the back of the console, where they split (red and white leading off to left, blue and white off to right) and disappear under the carpet.

Everything seems to work, so what are these for? Ive put some pictures up, but I dont know how to put them on here so please use the link.

Thanks.

Also, whats the little bulb in the white housing for, located just behind the gear stick...its covered up the central console cover is on, and lights up when the headlights are on or the doors are open?[/img]

The wires running under the carpet are an obvious add-on by a previous owner and could be safely removed. the little bulb by the gearshift illuminates the ashtray.

I often wonder if the wiring could be put back into service for something useful. For instance, mine still has a Bosch switch which lights up, and wires that disappear under the dash. There are also some mystery wires b the battery terminals. I'm sure they were for the foglights that used to be on the bullbar, and may prove handy if I decide to refit foglights.

Good to hear you are having a good poke about DickieP - way to do it!

Most aditional wiring is to do with TV,s Sat Nav and Hi Fi installtion, but its worth checking whether its live and trying to strip it back to the source so that it is removed properly.
