Inside florescent lamp

Post by SimonT » Thu Jul 26, 2007 10:56 pm

The florescent lamp just above the rear seats only seems to currently light up with half the luminosity that it has done in the past. It has lit up so well that I could read by the light it gives off. But not any longer. does any one know if this can be replaced, ie can the lamp be bought anywhere? Also I am reluctant to force the cover, has anyone removed this with out breaking it?

I replaced mine for that reason when I bought the Bongo BUT I then found the new one did te same. I then found that fiddling with the tube in the locating slots caused it to glow brighter and I decided it was fussiness about being clicked in properly that was the real cause. After a couple of go where it stayed brighter for a while then went dim again, I eventually seemed to get it settled so that it has stayed bright now for over 6 months. So try that out before your rush to replace it. I now have a spare. Also, I got a replacement from bongobits but I gather they can be got dirt cheap at camping shops so check that out too (if 'Search' can find it, there's advice on BF somewhere) 8)

A different and much more elusive type is used in post '99 New Shape Bongos.

A lot of discussion on this some while ago on the forum.

If you use the SEARCH facility I would try the alternative mis-spellings as well.

FLUORESCENT is correct but flourescent, florescent, flurescent and other variations have been used.

Tubes available from Maplins - I think I paid £2.49. Mine was also very dim and battery kept going flat - no problem since I replaced it.
