I've posted this once already (fume!) but the software seems t ohave dropped it.

I may tackle fitting my kit tomorrow. Could I aks:

1) Harpo - which wire did you pick your ignition live feed up from as I think I'll opt for the same as you. Also, what did you use to open out the hole in your instrument panel after using the supplied drill bit (my other drill bits are old and I dont want to try using them!)

2) Haydn/Bonza/Anyone - reading the instructions, it looks like I'll need to buy bullet connectors, in line 3amp fuseholder and fuse. I dont have crimpers, but can bullet connectors be crimped (with care) using the wire cutting bit of pliers. Crimpers seem an expensive purchase considering I'll use them once in a blue moon

Thanks chums. I expect to spend all day on the job as it'll take me half a day to find tools and get bits - I'm not super duper together like some of you out there! 8)

You NEED a sharp 6.5m drill to open up the hole. Buy or borrow (or sharpen) I think if you use a blunt one you may risk damage.
Cant remember the wire that i used for the feed. I think it was the heavy red wire from the Ign swtich. I will check later and post.

Thanks+++ Harpo - I'll get that sorted and wait to hear about the wire. I imagine I can have a go myself using my (new - never had one before) multimeter and checking which feed becomes live when the key is turned.

Any advice on crimping bullet connectors with pliers - is that a 'no-no' ?

Just tidying up when rain stopped play but yep, I did it. I don't recommend going for the 2hr best time unless you are the experienced, confident, organised type. Much more relaxing (if you can call it that, especially as we are off on holiday in Mango in a few days and a mistake would have had consequences) to set aside the day to do it. But I've managed to do my install like harpo and pretty good it looks too. Feedback:

The black/red wire on the buzzer unit connection should either be black as per instructions, or the instructions should say black/red. Absolute beginners like me get nervous if things aren't exactly as described

The instructions would be much better if they were on one set of instructions, taking the user through in steps without having to hop to and fro. Pics should be as near to the relevant instruction as possible.

The instructions don't say where the washer that comes with the self tapping screw should be placed, and the photo is not good quality enough when printed to see for sure.

I fitted bullet connectors to the LED wires so it didnt matter if I fitted the LED firmly into its bezel. Trouble was I couldn't get it to snap home. Particularly difficult if mounting it in the instrument panel as you cant push against the brittle plastic of the display face. It pushed in fairly snugly but just as I was tying up wires after installation, I managed to yank it (only ligthtly) and it fell out. Had to take the panel out and put it back in (v annoying). I will leave it for now and hope it stays in place, but if it does it again I may try a bead of glue from the glue gun where the wire goes in to the back of the instrument panel as a stress reliever. It will be interesting to see if a vibrating diesel causes it to come loose over time. A pity there isnt a more friendly mounting method but please dont think it is bad, it is a neat and simple mount and I'm being hypercritical

As stated above, I put bullet connectors on my LED. I put them a little distance from where the wires exit the back of the instrument panel. With hindsight, I would have put them as near to the buzzer unit as possible so the LED and its wires could be fed through and connected up last. That way I'd have avoided the snagging problem described above.

In the end, I used a rather blunt drill bit in the final opening up of the hole in the instrument panel. I had used the one that came with the kit, then a 5.5mm which was new, then a bluntish 1/4" one. I just took my time, applied no extra pressure, and did it in short stages so the plastic didnt overheat with the friction. I also took the trouble to v carefully burr off and raising of the plastic around the hole, using my minidrill and a little grinding attachment. Probably quite unnecessary!

I took my power supply from a blue/white wire at back of the fuse box. I'm not good on leccy stuff but this was quite a beefy wire. Even if the blue/white wire is fused, I think I may fit an inline 3 amp fuse as per instructions, when I get a moment (huh!), cos I suspect it is fused at a high amperage. I scotchlocked onto this wire rather than cut it.

Cant think of owt else. A lovely little piece of equipment and thanks to Haydn and Bonza for all their effort and initiative. Its easy to forget that this option wouldn't have been there for Bongo owners if they hadnt had the drive to see this project through. I hope the feedback above helps in refining the product.

Off to tidy up, and do some other stuff.

Well, I've had a go and managed to fit most of it.

Problem is, where do the RED and RED/BLACK wires from the main unit connect to? Both sides of the Green/Yellow wire (the blind feed)? Can't decide from the destructions, so I'm a bit knackered at the mo.

I'm going to fit an in-line to one of them and then connect that to one side of the Green/ Yellow wire. The fit the remaining side to the other end of the Green/Yellow.

Does that sound right?

Cheers

Red goes to the switched live and the red/black to earth.

Great piece of kit though Haydn esp with the LED mounted by the temp gauge (thanks for that+++ harpo). I keep nipping out to switch the ignition on just to watch it light up and chirp - cant believe I managed to do it

Cheers Haydn.

Fitted the LED in a blank and it looks rather good. Nice simple kit for the brainless (me!).

Up and working..........

Just as a tip...........Read ALL the instructions carefully before half-arsedly attempting to do anything.

There's me all ready to complain to Haydn that it doesn't work, then...........Lo and behold............I read the instructions (the bit I hadn't read before- being clever!) and it says wait for 6 seconds for the alarm to sound.............Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh (dumbass!).

I'd say thats fair - the guys got to make a living. Doesth eprice include the low coolant warning kit cost or is that extra? If he is replacing the top hose, I presume he plans to bleed the system PROPERLY (i.e. he knows whats involved in bleeding a Bongo). Make 100% sure he does!!

PS - why does the top hose need replacing. Worn out?

That is indeed a super price. To get a coolant alarm kit and a top hose AND have them both fitted for £99 !!! absolute bargin. I paid £70 just to get the top hose changed and I was happy with that. I know who is offering this very good deal/price and he does know what he's doing regarding bleeding.
go for it.

IF I CAN FIT THE SENSOR ANYONE CAN.. i even put the led near the water temp guage as suggested.i found if you took the plastic facing that your drilling into and put it on a piece of wood then its a lot easier and flatter to drill.i found a good 1/4 inch bit and just took my time.Must admit the scary part is drilling your expansion bottle(not with the 1/4 inch drill but with the one supplied),but the instructions are spot on ,,so read everything twice.
Lost without my Bongo.

After seeing the prices of the kits/ top hose alone + advice from an Elder
I have contacted the guy and will be getting this booked in.
Saves me getting my hands dirty (those days have long gone if I can help it).

You can't beat this site for advice / knowledge. Well worth the subs.
