Cambelt - what do I need to get?

Post by DickieP » Mon Jul 23, 2007 10:53 am

As advised by the learned members of the forum, Im gonna get the cambelt replaced on the new bong, and my local recommended garage will do it for £60 (plus a £30 waxoyl while hes about it). I need to get the parts however - do I simply need the Cam Belt Service Kit (Belt, tensioner & spring. For diesel Bongos. £68.75 from the members shop), or is there anything additional I should also get for him. Sorry for my ignorance- feel free to point and laugh!

Only observation is you're unlikely to get much of a waxoyl treatment for £30!

Retail price of 5 litres of genuine Waxoyl is probably about £20.

£200-£300 is more like it for a proper job?

can get the basic waxoyl treatment in wigan for around £50,but is a bit more for the full monty,i.e inside chassis and door panels, think they charge around £120-£150,wheelquick in wigan

As far as the cambelt goes, am I correct to say I need the following:

1 x Cambelt service kit (Belt, tensioner & spring. For diesel Bongos)
2 x diesel Aircon belt
2 x Alt/fan belt

Is there anything else I need?

As far as the waxoyl goes, I know its not gonna be the best job, but the guy is well recommended by users of the site, especially on the welsh thread, so Im getting it done till I can afford anything else...

Cheers for the replies.

I would suggest getting the cam belt KIT FROM the garage you are getting the work done....
I have had many friends in the past buy cam belts seperatly then get some garage to fit them only to have one snap!!!!
Then the garage blame the parts and the parts supplier will blame the labour.....vicious circle....Take your choice wisely....

Ring around garages for a total price inc parts....
As a guide i had a garage do mine In Leeds( no good for yourself i know) and payed £120 ALL IN inc parts and labour....This was for a cam belt/tensioner/spring....ADL make which i am led to believe is a good quality blue print part...

Good advice cheifster

I was told if I supply parts myself and they break I would have to pay to get them fixed as the garage only supplied the labour
If the garage supplies the parts then they are responsable for it no matter if its parts or human error
