Short runs

Post by kev.willie » Tue Jul 17, 2007 8:58 pm

As I have recently bought my little freda, I would like to know if it is doing her any harm by just going the short distance to and from work and then taking her on long runs now and again :?:

you will use more fuel on short runs  But if you give it a good run evey so often it should be fine

Cheers for that I am just a bit worried if there would be any long term effects.

Kev.Willie,
I use mine exactly like that,to and from work, days out on weekend and then the occasional(well quite regular really  ) run out to as many Bongo Meets as I can muster.
It has proven to Me to be no more expensive to run than some of the larger past cars that I have owned,so Im well pleased.

Same here, and mine's used almost daily too. Cheaper to run than my old Spacecruiser, and much better performance.

I agree.

However, hilly country and short runs wont play to the Bongos strengths. Mind you they wont play to any cars strengths, its just that the 'drop off' in mpg may be greater in things like Bongos and Spacecruisers? 8)

can i join in? me too. 10 min drive to work, 4 min drive to tesco. use it all the time. no probs at all. best car/van/house i've ever driven/ lived in. mpg not noticeably worse than 2.0l petrol focus and 2.5td ldv convoy previous. i'd rather drive my bongo to work than worry about a few bucks anyway(plus it's a great tea-hut!)

It's petrols that really hate short journeys. The petrol condenses on the bores and washes the oil away. Diesel diesels don't suffer as much and the fuel acts as a lubricant rather than a solvent anyway. Your exhaust will still suffer more but not enough to worry about.
