pela and atf

well just used the pela to suck the atf out
not the quickest but then there is nothing to do except watch so anytime will seem like a long time
seems to work very well though and is certainly a very clean method

still to fill her back up though but need to get a better funnel

got 3 and a half lires out - i assume that is about right

Did you take it for a run for a few miles to get the oil warm before trying to suck it out, makes the job a lot easier and cleaner....

afraid i didnt but i thought that wasnt valid for atf as it is not as GLOPPY as engine oil

i did think about it at the 1 litre point but it's not as if it's a rush
i mean it took 20 mins to suck it out -

It is nice to get other views and terminology on car and van topics, now I must add 'Gloppy' into my Oils and Lubricants entry. it has a lovely ring to it and describes the texture of cold ATF exactly.

I think if you had warmed it up by going for a 5 mile run, the van not you, it would have been an awful less Gloppy and not only would you have removed it quicker but you may even have removed more of it. Maybe next time...

You might be able to get more out by jacking up the rear of the van - I did it on both sides and got about another 1/4 to 1/2 litre out.

karen - will you now be taking the ATF pan off and cleaning the filter etc. or are you just going for a fluid change. Does it matter not cleaning the filter etc?

I'd be tempted to do my ATF if all that was required was to suck out the old and put in some new, but dont fancy the faff of taking the pan off, cleaning the filter etc. esp. as my fluid seems in good nick!

I cant see the point of doing an oil change unless you're going to take the sump off and clean the filter. Theres a magnet in the sump which collects any particles that accumulate through normal wear and tear and is worth cleaning. Additionally the oil in the bottom of the sump tends be creamy and thick, I wouldn't be confident I could remove all this with a pump.
