service+cam belt good price?

£200 for service - dependant on parts used
£250 for cam belt -

is this a good price? new bongo owner first time of doing this.

It depends on a few variables... Is that a main dealer price? it sounds like it.

Are they supplying the filters,oil etc?

As a rule of thumb,at my local garage,if i supply my own filters (oil,fuel filter) I have a K&N so that isn't applicable, Then a service would be around the £40 mark.(that inclues the cleaning and re-oiling of the K&N)

A cambelt change would be around a £100

All the above jobs together (recommended) £130-£140.

sounds expensive to me,

i bought all my own bits and i mean everything from bongo bits,

full service ie all filters, and cambelt kit including the tensioner bit and springs, and loads of belts, i think a power steering one, fanbelt etc etc and all the service bits and cambelt full kit was just over £100,

my mechanic took hour and half doing service......about £50 and the cambelt took two hours as he had to drive it to a pit to work on and that was another £60 so for just over £200 i had the whole lot done,


i think if i was you i would shop around and then go back to them with your quotes and see if they will match,

if not dont get done get dom!!! morning telly show!!

The service supplys all the filters and bits.
and its not a main dealers but an importer local to me.
Dont really know where else to go, im in hertfordshire and had similler quotes from other local garages...

Yep - they are taking the mick.
I supply all parts for a service and cambelt change. My garage usually charges me around £120 labour and oil. His service is a proper one (not just filters) and he takes all the wheels off and inspects brakes / tyres etc.
The last one included an MOT and drop links and the labour / MOT part of the bill was £180.
Filter kit and Cambelt kit should be around £80-£90.

yep sounds like he trying it on and using the peeps who pay for his next holiday in the bahamas

local garage to me was :-
i supplied all oils engine/gearbox/diff all filters cambelt kit
full service including fitting of the cambelt
including rooting round cleaning the brakes etc lubricating bits
was £120 (6 hours labour )

which i thought was very fair

Just had cam belt full KIT done...
garage supplied the kit and labour at a total cost of £120 all in...

Cam belt kit was ADL blueprint.. :)

WOW!!!Thanks guys, van was heading in in the morning, you have all saved me alot of money!!!
I will be looking up another garage in the morning, do you generally get the service parts here or let the garage sort it out?
Also can any garage do the service if i buy the parts and camb belt?

I do love this forum!!!

That's about what I paid for my Bongo's first service and cambelt change in my ownership. It was from a small garage in Hertford, who supplied all the parts too. Mind you, they did do a very thorough job. Like you, I got similar quotes from just about everyone around here. I think it is the labour charges in this area, as when I looked at the final bill the prices quoted for the various parts were similar to those at Bongo bits. What I find really annoying is that fitters' wages around here aren't much different from other parts of the country.

ive just spent ages calling around lots of garages and got offerd a price im happy with

Service is £180 including filters, oils, coolants, everything was £150 with out coolants.All parts supplyed.

For cam belt £200 all bits supplyed

All done in one day form a garage recomended on the fact sheets.
They seem to know what they are talking about and have my trust,
I did phone local garages both supplying parts myself or them getting them and it was cheaper. Only by £20-£30, only problem was they did not really have a clue about the bongo and i could see some sort of problem ahead....

Is this still to much? not done this before and want to get it right

£200 still sounds dear for a cambelt change but you've got cost down from £450 to £380 so not bad so far. Keep going? 8)

the labour cost for my head to be done and rad fitted was only £200
so £ 200 for a service seems a bit pricey to me.

I think £200 is perfectly acceptable for a cambelt service IF the belt AND tensioner and spring are being supplied and fitted by the garage.

If they're just supplying the belt then I think £150 is more like it, and if they're not supplying anything then £100 is fair.

Natty, if you don't know whether the tensioner and spring have ever been changed, it names good sense to get them done with the belt, so do check with the garage to see exactly what they plan to include.

I know its not down south and maybe you pay a little more, but my cam belt done and tensioner and spring ADL blue print parts, all cost inc labour £120.. :lol:

Almost worth combining a trip to wild camp in the Dales with getting the job done in Yorkshire 8)
