Holes in our roof

Post by george » Sun Jul 08, 2007 9:11 pm

I'm sure this info is somewhere on the web page but I can't find it.

We have 4 holes on our roof with screw fittings - when we checked them out earlier today it appears that they only go into the fibre glass roof and not into the metal work underneath.

Does this mean that the people before probably only ever put light things on the roof eg surf boards etc? Do you think we can put a roof box if we drill more holes into the roof? Getting very confused with what I can and can't do with my Bongo only just got it.

Went out in it Friday for first night away and it great fun just need to sort a few things before we go abroad in it.

There are bolt holes in the roof as standard

The club shop sells roof bars to fit and you can fit a box to them.

I would not recomend drilling new holes just use the existing ones see link below

Thank you

Are these holes strong enough to hold a roof box?

They don't appear to be fixed to any metal work.

Im concerned by your term holes so I climbed up on to mine and took these photos
Image
Shows the positions of the 4

Shows what should be there, a nut for things to attach to
If you dont have them you may need to rethink.

I have never put anything on the roof but there have been threads where the Nut has come adrift

Great photo's thank you - I will check ours again in daylight.

Another silly question I'm sure but .....when the roof goes up what are the 3 metal loop brackets for? Is it to fix an awning? They are only on the left hand side.

Yes, they are there to tie an awning.....

Is your side door on the left hand side also?

Yes it is.

Thought that's what they were for ...but you never know they could be for something else.

We are discovering new things every day........

Only had the Bongo a few weeks.
