Welcome to the madhouse - if you lift the driver's seat, you'll see it.
By the way, typing in capital letters on the forum is counted as shouting

fuel pumps!! Again!!

Post by zoe.no1 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 10:19 pm

Thanks to John who replied to my question regarding where the fuel pump is situated. But we are still struggling, first of all our bongo started losing power, and would only move at a snails pace when your foot was flat to the floor. Now it wont even start! the engine turns over, and it seems that no fuel is making its way through the pipes from the tank whatsoever. The fuel pump is pumping automatically when turning the engine over, But thats about it. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, and if so, are we talking big money to get it repaired? Thanks to all you bongotastic warriors out there!! :)

Have you changed the fuel filter? Also, there is a small wire mesh filter in the "hole" when you remove the fuel pipe to the pump - this sometimes gets blocked and gives the symptoms you describe. This little filter will need to be gently removed with a screwdriver, or similar, because it's deep in the pump and you can't see it easily.

No engine

If fuel delivery Ok then what about the glow plugs?

Have you a good battery, does the 'glow' light go out on the dash, do you hear a click from behind the dash.

Does the engine turn over quite quickly, and smoke whatsoever come out of the exhaust - if so what colour. Are you using regular diesel or bio or veggy oil???

Is the fuel solenoid sticcking in the off position?

To check if fuel is reaching the injectors, you could slacken off one of the injector pipes, and turn the engine over. You should see fuel coming through.
