valve clearances
hi can anyone tell me the van clearances for a 95 aft 2.5 wlt engine
I thought I'd read somewehere that the valves were hydraulic, so no need to adjust.

You are probably right, it was this thread from last year which I had read. http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ht=tappets
There seems to be some confusion as to whether they are hydraulic or not.
Need someone with a workshop manual to confirm.

Per the WLT Engine Manual CD, the clearances are (cold engine):-
Inlet 0.05 - 0.15mm
Exhaust 0.15 - 0.25mm
Don't know why there is such a large range in the clearances

Franco says, 'Don't know why there is such a large range in the clearances' - the exhaust valve gets hotter therefore expands more.
It lets HOT gasses out, the inlet valve lets COLD air in.

Didn't mean that vanmanerik - I wondered why each valve had a margin. In the old days, the gap always seemed to be a set measurement i.e. 8 thou.
As you say, exhaust valves have always had a larger gap due to the heat.

Now if the topic was in thous, instead of this metric nonsense I would have understood the question.
I can 'feel' to a couple of thou but what is 0.15mm - might as well be green cheese!

I know the feeling - it used to be the thickness of a fag packet to set the pointsVanmanerik wrote:Now if the topic was in thous, instead of this metric nonsense I would have understood the question.I can 'feel' to a couple of thou but what is 0.15mm - might as well be green cheese!
