Fuel Sender Unit dead

Post by awildman » Thu Jun 28, 2007 11:27 pm

does any one know the part number for the fuel sender, mine is dead and the cheapest so far is £100. with a part number it may be that they are not bongo specific

I had a no fuel reading problem with mine, traced it to a poor connection between the wiring connector and the main cover plate of the sender unit. there is a rivet which holds the main plate to the bits that get submerged in the fuel and this had loosened by vibration enough to cause corrosion between the mating faces held by the rivet thus giving no return to earth . I solved the problem by soldering the connector on the unit to a short wire that was earthed to the tank and hence the car by one of the screws holding the unit to the tank by means of a small ring crimp. i was determined to try bodging it rather than pay for a new one so was very pleased when all worked ok......
Well worth a look. :!:

further to my last post if you get the unit out you can measure with a multimeter the resistance of the sender unit between its terminals to see if the reading changes when you move the float up and down its travel. it will be in single figures of ohms one way and much more the other way.
i did not get this at the terminals on top with my fault but By measuring directly onto the sender unit coil connections underneath i found my earthing fault was between the terminals on top and the wiring underneath...the rivet was to blame. easier to do than explain im afraid!!
