What about S. Yorkshire.
Give a chance for us Southerners to meet up with you Northern nutters. The driving distances would be favourable :D

Believe me, the 20 miles extra to West Yorks is worth it

Here's a local joke:

Q: Where's the best part of Sheffield to live in?

A: Derbyshire!

(No this has nothing to do with rain, and flooding BTW- my brother lives and works in Sheffield, so I am as aware as most how terrible it is as the moment.)
Where we live in West Yorks, Sheffield is arguably our nearest city, and we often go shopping there.

And, yes, actually there are some nice parts of South Yorkshire - there are even seven campsites listed in ukcampsites:

http://ukcampsites.co.uk/sites/results3 ... &by=county

But there are 60 listed in North Yorks, and 30 in West Yorks

For a North / South get together somewhere nice in the Derbyshire Peaks might be worth a thought? There are some stunning cycle tracks around there - our first Bongo outing allowed us to do an easy one along an old railway track and it was just the best ever!

Thank you all for the responses so far. ive been in contact with 14 caravan parks in the last 2 days. so far 4 have said no chance, too busy. one wanted an exemption certificate cause of the numbers, 3 were unsure with it just for a weekend, one said they could fit us in midweek but not weekends. one i cant get hold of the owner so im off for a drive tomorrow night to see him.
goosewood remember us from last years meeting, i missed their call today, looks promising, again im going down to see them tomorrow. the rest im still waiting for a reply. Naburn lock where dave n erin stopped said yes provisionally with restrictions on noise after 11pm. the ones ive contacted nr the coast are pretty full up so no real oportunities there. Im gonna have a ride up to bridlington this weekend weather permitting and will have a scout around.

looking so far as if the 27th, 28th and 29th july best time for most people so i will try to get them dates.

handyman your welcome to join us in the north, more the merrier.

karena yes the mire is a racecourse but there is a big central area where we normally fly/board/buggy with kites with no restrictions (as yet). your welcome to have a go with the kites ive got but i would guess you will have to join the queue.
not sure on the surfing in filey normally scarbourough is favoured but could be wrong. bridlington is good for kites, kite surfing but must be below south cliff.

watch this space , as soon as i get anymore info ill post it you you all

Sounds like your already putting a lot of time into this Dream. We should be able to come, a coastal meet would be great.

perhaps the lovely yorkshire weather will put the "average"camper off and they.ll cancel in droves leaving loadsa room for us.
How about we add floats to the bongo,s and use the kites as sails. Would be great for fuel consumption and environmentally sound.

of the 5 sites we visited out nr bishopthorpe there was only one who would be willing to allocate us for one of the weekends. unfortunately the field is currently under water as it is near to the river ouse.
So he isnt sure if the site will be open and i doubt it would be big enough for 10 vans. He did however agree a price of £15/per night, non electric but no extra charge for children, awnings/gazebos etc.
Most of the sites were charging extras on top of one unit and two people which make it an expensive weekend for some.
if it was going to be a york meeting with the intension of kite flying then it narrows us down to dates as there is a race meeting on july 13/14 and july 26/28th.
This is proving to be a bigger headache than i imagined it to be, full credit to dabongo for organising him. Right im off to naburn to try there.

naburn sounds the best bet. large flat rally field same size as charity farm but mown, no electric hookup though but will have room to fly kites etc. However will be sharing the field with an abbey rally at the same time. They may yet move us into an 80 acre field. Prices as yet to confirm as peter was away but they are calling me tomorrow. expect around the £12/ per night mark.

dates confirmed as friday 20th till sunday 22nd july.

hopefully this will be ok for most people. Even if we cant fly kites there its not too far to the mire. If we get the big field its where they fly ballons from so should be big enough for us.
Dogs ok on a lead but there is a no noise policy from 11 pm till 7am. apart from that they seem pretty relaxed.
more news as i get it.

.
Just have to start partying earlier Mike.

If I start drinking at 2255, I know I will be pissed by 2300. hic, so no problem with that one.

The good thing about Naburn Lock is that there is a bus from the gates straight into York centre. Takes about 15mins to get right into town and its cheaper than the parking charges.

Cool site, I love it.

See my tale of York from this homepage for info on Naburn Lock, if you havent already read it. (its the tale at the bottom of the list)

There is also a river boat bus from the site, but it takes about an hour to get into town

i take it by your reply that you and erin will be joining the group at york. emma will be pleased i think she likes you dave, always talking about you. (who was that mad, crazy nutter with the big balloons stuck up his shirt).
i especially liked the bit where you asked for a knife and emma ran to get one asap. never ask emma to get a knife.
i think your pushing it a bit dave getting drunk in 5 minutes, judging by the state of you at charity a bottle of campari should see you off in 3 minute.
