Another TV/DVD question…..

Post by Powerslide » Mon Jun 25, 2007 7:35 pm

Can any of you guys out there tell me if I would be able to watch a DVD, whilst parked up, without flattening the battery? Or would a leisure battery be required? :? Is “static running” a practical idea, especially to keep the air-con on, or would this cause damage if left running whilst stationary? :?
Once again your advice is gratefully received  .

any electrics left on for long enough will flatten the battery

We use a tv the radio etc while parked up but not for too long and we have no leisure battery (yet)

Hi Weston!

I have first hand experience of lights and a stereo flattening a battery…………… I was on a beach, at night with an in-coming tide and ended up having to call the coast guard! But that, as they say is another story…….   .
Would a DVD and screen use that much juice? Anyone want to own up/admit to having flattened a battery trying to watch a film or will I have to experiment myself??

As for my location in Cyprus, I’m mainly on the beach or water 8) :D 8)
Living at Akrotiri. And loving it with the Bongo. Must think of a name for him/her/it.

I've watched a couple of DVDs on a laptop with no problem.

I first came out here in 90, and have been back and forward ever since!! :D

Even got married here in 98 :D :D !

It really keeps changing over the years but we still love it here, and the Bongo is the ideal companion to see the island!!

I've watched a DVD movie on the LCD thing I Have and had no trouble. My starter battery is a 95Ah so quite a beefy one, and in good nick.

BUT, I cant help but think that doing this is an accident waiting to happen. Much better to get a leisure battery, use that and have peace of mind. Its a case of the 5B's - A Bongo with no Battery is a Bad Beast to Bump

There ways to avoid it, one is to buy a power pack, the type that will start a car, they normally have a cig socket and will power a dvd player etc.|They can then be charged up whilst on the move via the cig socket, I have one in all my vehicles, at the moment a local store near me calleds "what" is selling em at £20.00, I would recommend them to anyone as a valuable piece of kit, great for watching movies on picnics etc. Happy motoring.

What would I do without you guys!!!!???? Of course, with an auto box, a big hill would be no use at all

I think I’ll go with the power pack idea until I can get a leisure battery fitted……….
