Alternator belts

Hi

I've just noticed that my 2.5D bongo has no second alt belt. Just 1. It's prob been like that a good long while but obviously I need to fix.

Is there. Way I can get the second (left hand side) on without taking off the AC belt. I have very limited work space so tend to try to do every job from the top inside and on a hill(!)

If I can, do I need to slacken the water pump or can I make do just loosening the alternator. I don't want to refill coolant at the moment (and would replace water pump), but if it's genuinely easier to do all of this at the same time, then let me know because that is on my to do list. I'm thinking more quick fix to get that second belt on. Any tips or suggestions gratefully received!

I can’t remember what has to come off to fit the fan belts, but it’s vital to fit a new pair.

The work is the same, cost minimal, and fitting one will cause trouble.

You definitely don’t need to remove the water pump to fit fan belts.

Thanks. Think the AC belt needs to come off, so will replace al three.

If I did water pump at the same time, do l lose loads of coolant, or just a bit i.e. can I just refill the system on partially with a bit of a bleed?

I think in the diesel, the w/p is built in? In which case you will loose most if not all the coolant, but I've only a V6 to look at! Try a search on the forum to find out!

If you’re replacing the pump you’ll have to bleed it so you might as well take the opportunity to replace the coolant.
