P0400 - Exhaust EGR malfunction.
I am assuming your Bongo is ... movement is free and actually cleaning the EGR system + valves. Suppose you are going into limp mode ... that after stripping/cleaning the EGR system, vacuum system pipes and wastegate mind!!!
Enjoy!!!

A lot of those items above are operated by the vacuum system, maybe there is a leak in the vacuum system which could include the vacuum pipe to the exhaust valve causing a lack of vacuum? Try this search search.php?keywords=vacuum+system+exhaust

Re: Starting issues again
Do NOT bolt unknown cables to the chassis! Black coloured wires are normally chassis/earth in a Mazda vehicle. I suspect if its a red wire then its an old Cold start signal used to close a valve in the exhaust using the vacuum system. Best to un-bolt it insulate the end and tie it back.

Re: Charging light fault
NO! The two batteries are in parallel all the time, the switch merely causes the vacuum system to close a valve in the exhaust forcing hot exhaust aback around the engine. In the UK there is a good chance the valve has rusted and will jam in the closed position causing you sever grief!

Re: Removing winter pack
The valve in the exhaust is operated by the vacuum system via an electrical driven solenoid, the reference is to making sure that the vacuum system is left intact and the outlet that went to the valve is blocked off to preserve the vacuum.

The "gubbins" I had queried turned out to be the quick warm up exhaust valve control system but I hadn't a scooby. All I knew was it was using the vacuum take-off that the fact sheet points to.
