Been a while since looking at this. Bongo has been at at the yard for months now and just brought I back as was about to give up.
Simon, if I could borrow the fuel pump that would be terrific. I presume the electric pump is submersed in the tank and therefore being cooled by the fuel? If so, it ...

Re: V6 Noisy Engine & Oily Plug
I note you do not have LPG fitted yet so dunno if it's relevant or not ..
Nope, no LPG yet. Have saved up just about enough to get the conversion then this happens :(
I think is definitely a fuel supply issue as it only happens below quarter of a tank of fuel, and gets worse the less fuel there ...

Re: V6 Noisy Engine & Oily Plug
So the garage couldn't find anything top end causing the noise. Power wise everything seems ok, and there is no oil/fuel/water mixing issues. The garage thinks it could be a cracked piston but really not sure without doing considerably more diagnostics at a cost of several hundred quid. :(

Ummm ... looking at .. the .. camshaft ...
There are four of them .. plus 24 hydraulic valve lifers .. any which could give top end noises ..!!
Well you know what I mean!
So what could be up with the HLAs? Doesn't sound like the normal sticking I used to hear on my MX6. The pitch is totally ...

Re: V6 Noisy Engine & Oily Plug
So just a quick update.
The total power loss was nothing to do with the misfire, guess it was just a coincidence. I discovered this by the fact that the power loss only occurred when the fuel reached about a quarter of a tank, it never cut out above this level. So as previously thought,

yep afraid soNorthern Bongolow wrote:is it still knocking now the plugs are fresh and the oil leaks stopped.
sound like it's top end, just hoping it's a tensioner or something. pretty sure it's unrelated to the oil leak unless of course a prolonged misfire could have caused something else to fail?

Re: V6 Noisy Engine & Oily Plug
If you get a misfire on one of HT leads you'd still have 5 working cylinders so I'd not expect 'total loss of power' so there may be something else going on in addition to the oil leak.
If you change the cam cover gasket (which does sound like its leaking) also change the cam cover nut seals ...

Each other lead is fine, all clean and dry. Going to change the plugs themselves this afternoon once I can be sure no oil will drip down when I take the mucky one out.

V6 Noisy Engine & Oily Plug
Hi Guys,
I've not been on here for quite a while. My bongo has been sitting unused for a year or so due to family matters that have prevented us from going away this / last year. Been regularly turning her over and taking her out for a little run so generally should be OK. MOT a couple of weeks ...

Argh!!!!
Fully dissasembled and oil seal (as above) is wrong size! Oil seal supplied is too large to fit
Makes me wish I had purchased a service manual.

Re: Differential Oil Seal
Anyone know the best place to source a n/s front diff oil seal? Searched everywhere and no-one has gone one, except the breakers which defeats the object.

Re: Differential Oil Seal
Its not a particularly hard job, but it does involve some the main cv nut which can be a pain to get off, like most car repairs, the actual repair is only 5 mins, stripping away what you need to is what takes the time! If you want a step by step let me know and i'll sort 1 out and send it to you ...

Differential Oil Seal
Hi guys,
Had a puncture last week (NSF) which was replaced right away but yesterday noticed shedloads of what can only be gearbox oil all over my nearside wishbone. As far as I can tell it seems like its coming from the front diff. So unfortunately I think the oil seal has gone.
