I haven't managed to remove fan from van yet but I wanted to ask, is there any way of testing the fan direct from 12v without removing it?
The fan seems to spin quite freely ( by hand) with no resistance.

The roof light problem was as you advised, the near side switch in the roof. The tiniest black rubber grommet had dislodged and had to be replaced (with a piece of rubber from an old pencil) :-).

BTW I have taken the relay apart and can't see any obvious problems (all wires appear to be connected and absolutely no corrosion)

I have read lots of posts about similar problems and been testing as best as poss (not confident with multimeter) and it appears to me that it is the glow plug relay.

There is no power at glow plug bar.
The fusible link seems ok (no broken or loose connections)
