For those who are interested, the problem is fixed. I took it to TMVR in Brixham and they traced it to a faulty coolant sensor, plus a wire shorting out somewhere in the cooling circuit. If anyone has a similar problem, I can try and find more information as to where the short was.
The problem with ...

Re: Yet another overheating query
Really agree with the low coolant alarm. I got one from Haydn plus a TM2 engine temperature alarm and it has taken the stress out of overheating worries (which thankfully have gone away now I have a new head - fingers crossed). I believe he does a combination unit which fulfils both function in one ...

Re: Yet another overheating query
Been there, done that. I'm afraid it's a familiar Bongo story. One thing I have learned is that you have to be very careful who you allow to work on the cooling system on a Bongo since many seemingly reputable garages (and AA breakdown repairmen) really don't understand how vital it is that a Bongo ...

Flashing glowplug light on startup
I have recently noticed that my glow plug light takes longer to go out on startup, even when the engine is warm - but thought I might be imagining it. I was driving it recently after a week's non-use, and after a few yards the light started flashing and the engine misfired, but then sorted itself ...

Re: Bongo keeps losing water
Sorted (I think). Problem continued with pressurised system until driving through the centre of Bath when the temperature shot up. Managed to turn off the engine before it got too hot - and an RAC man diagnosed a stuck thermostat. Unbelievably, he removed it by the roadside (no spare to hand), we ...

Bongo keeps losing water
Anyone have any clues on this? My Bongo keeps blowing water out of the top of the expansion tank (I think). I have bled the system (3 times +), checked for leaks (none), flushed the system - fitted a new rad - shall I go on? You name it, I've done it.

Re: Turbo and temperature gauge
Regarding the comments about the 'non-moving' temperature gauge, I recently fitted an accurate digital guage - and I can tell you the temperature is going up and down all the time. I suspect Mazda (and most other modern vehicle manufacturers) realised that an accurate gauge was "too much information ...

Flashing glow plug sequence
I have a September 2000 Bongo (diesel, 4WD, etc) with an intermitent problem with a flashing glow plug light and have tried virtually everything. According to the Engine Diagnostics factsheet, the fault code is indicated in the flashing sequence of the light, and gives examples of this in the sheet ...

Roof maintenance
My roof is working fine and goes up and down without problem but it occurs to me that it might be good to do a bit of preventative maintenance - like lubricating the moving parts. Does anyone have any experience of this - like what to lubricate, and what the best oils/greases are. I could just go ...
